The “Vela: rendere consapevoli” project originates from the past collaboration between the Fondazione Un Raggio di Luce onlus, Casa della Solidarietà di Quarrata, the Don Milani Center, the parish communities of Vicofaro and Ramini and Davide Cerullo, around the issue of legality and the situation of degradation and violence that makes Scampia one of the most tortuous territories of Italy. From this collaboration, realized by the photographic exhibition "Scampia. Faces questioning "from the images captured by the objective of David Cerullo, which of Scampia is original, and the "thoughts" that these places, so indissolubly interwoven with his life, inspired him, the idea of a project came about structured at Scampia with the aim of helping to stop the degradation of the area and helping children and young people to refuse the culture of violence and oppression in which the Camorra would like to confine them. The fact of the project came from the decision of the Un Raggio di Luce onlus Foundation, Casa della Solidarietà and Pozzo di Giacobbe, Volunteer Association of Quarrata to start a path for defining a conspiracy in the field of education and of social activities. The type of project to be implemented has been defined by comparing the respective strategic plans, the nature and priorities of individual organizations, as well as their specific mission. The territorial context of reference is the district of Scampia, located on the northern outskirts of Naples.
The initiative aims to help improve the living conditions of Scampia children and young people from an educational, cultural and social point of view, by providing them with adequate, useful tools and tools for a choice of life based on the values of social justice and legality. Specifically, the project will focus on vocational training, school leakage, organization of stays in Tuscany by Scampia children‘s groups and exchanges between Scampia and Pistoia (between schools and associations), coordinating with many brave and exemplary initiatives already in existence.
